No. The study of piano, guitar, and other instruments are considered "instrument study". Music Theory is the study of how music works. It's basically the mechanics of music, something all musicians must study in order to become truly proficient. You need both instrumental study and music theory study. A good guitarist with a solid knowledge of music theory will come up with some fantastic guitar solos, and will know how to change things to make them more interesting and impressive.

4. I don't read music. I'm afraid that learning music theory will cramp my "free style"

That's like an illiterate poet being concerned that learning to read will shut off his creativity. It's not going to happen! You'll in fact experience the opposite. Knowing music theory will open your ears to all kinds of possibilities that you never even dreamed about. Rather than cramp your style, it'll
give you style.
