CONTEST,
May 2004 The answer to the previous Easy Music Mix contest can be found [here]. Ready for the next ear challenge? Maybe you'll win a prize! Here's the challenge: Easy Music Theory Lesson 6 teaches about measures and time signatures. Lesson 13 teaches about simple and compound time signatures. Much of the music we listen to is in 4/4 time, or 3/4 time. But it doesn't have to be. You can write music in 2/4, 6/8, 5/4, 6/4, 9/8, and so on. When you listen to music, you can quickly tell the time signature of most music, just by listening to the natural pulse of the music. When you listen to a waltz, you can pick up the 1-2-3, 1-2-3 of the music. This month's challenge is: Listen to a short clip of music, and tell us if it's in 3/4, 4/4, or 5/4. Click [here] to listen to the clip. More information below... keep reading!
Once you've listened, send an email to contest@EasyMusicTheory.com. In the body of the email, tell us: 1. Is the time signature 3/4, 4/4, or 5/4?
On May 31, 2004 we will be putting all correct entries into "the hat" and selecting a winner, who will receive a CD of some great music. To qualify to participate in the contest, you simply need to be a subscribed recipient of the Easy Music Theory Newsletter. If you're not currently subscribed, go [here], then come on back! Okay, time to listen! Click [here] to listen to the clip. Listening tip: If you're using Windows Media Player, or other fancy player, turning off the "TruBass" and other effects will make the clip clearer. You may need all the help you can get!
